In Clash of Clans, having a good defense is as important as planning a good attack.
Defenses serve both to protect trophies and to protect resources from enemy troops. Each defense has its own strengths and weaknesses, and its location in the Village should reflect that. For example, Mortars are slow-attacking, but they deal brutal damage to a set of ground troops. A disadvantage is that it cannot attack troops within an area of it (or air troops) so it must be placed in the center of the Village with adequate protection from air defenses. On the other hand, cannons and Archer Tower cause less damage to a set of troops (since they can only attack a single unit at a time), but the attack is faster and their work as the first line of defense it is very effective. The Mage's Tower deals area damage to both ground and air troops, but has a relatively short range.
